Anushka Sharma Sayed in Interview - “Imran is a younger SRK”

Q. Tell us something about your next release Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.

I was excited about doing this film because of Vishal Bhardwaj. Although I have only done five films in my career so far, I am greedy as an actor and want to play different roles. It’s hard to stereotype me. I’m blessed that I got to work with a director like Vishal B.hardwaj so early in my career. His cinema is edgy. And he doesn’t do it for effect. That’s how he’s as a person as well. I love the fact that he makes earthy films, which are also cool. His characters are extraordinary. He introduces his films based on his characters. Like this film is called Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. The title includes the three characters of the film – Matru, Bijlee and Mandola. Vishal sir inspires you not only as an actor but otherwise too. While shooting for MKBKM, I began writing poetry. I used to bounce it off him. He was always encouraging. He’d say, ‘Kahan se aata hai yeh sab kuch’. On my birthday he gifted me some of Gulzar saab’s unpublished poetry. That’s something I’ll cherish for life

Q. How did Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet come about?

It happened in the Yash Raj studios. Right after Band Baaja Baaraat (BBB), Anurag   had sent me a message saying how much he had liked the film and me. One day he asked me to meet him. I thought maybe he wanted to tell me the same thing in person. But when we met, he had brought along the script of Bombay Velvet. He handed it to me and told me he wanted to make Bombay Velvet with me and no one else. At that time he didn’t even have a hero on board.  In our industry, directors rarely come to actresses and say this role can only be played by you. Usually, they cast the actor and then consider who will look good opposite him. Also, Anurag doesn’t believe in norms. So when I saw something in him, which you don’t usually see in our industry I fell completely in love with him. Today, Anurag is a great friend, he’s like my teddy bear. I can talk rubbish with him.

Q. Tell us something about Bombay Velvet.

This is the first time I’m attempting a hardcore period film. Also this is a script that had to be made. Anurag had it for so many years. Plus, we all know that Ranbir Kapoor is one of the best actors in the country. So the entire team seems top notch.

Q. How did you land Rajkumar Hirani’s Peekay?

Again, after the release of BBB, I got a call and my phone flashed Rajkumar Hirani’s name. I found the closest corner and sat down there. He had called to tell me how much he had liked the film and me in it. In fact, he even told me about a few scenes, which he thought I had done well. Cut to the screening of Rockstar. I was overwhelmed by the film and walked out weeping and there was Rajkumar Hirani standing in front of me. I was a bit out of sorts. So when he told me that he had finished writing his film and would call me soon, it didn’t quite register. When I woke up the next day I asked myself whether he’d said that. I called him up and we eventually met. This was during the promotions of Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. He gave me the script and told me how his wife often joked that he never wrote strong characters for girls and that this time he had nailed it.

Q. Rumours suggest you aren’t cast opposite Aamir Khan in the film.

I don’t know who benefits from such stories. Whoever gives out these stories has too much time on their hands. Time will reveal everything. When the movie releases everyone will know the truth.

Q. You're a successful actress. Are people jealous of you?

I hope that’s not true. As a person I can never put other people down so that I can come up. And I do know there are people like that in the industry. So far I’ve stuck to my business and that has got me here. It’s also sad there is this whole PR gimmick where stories are planted to throw someone off. I have come this far without a PR person. So I don’t want to play games and lower my dignity. But it’s awful that someone can put anyone down to make themselves look good. Just shows how insecure actresses are. This never happens with the men. I would not hesitate to pick up the phone and tell an actress if I liked her work. I called up Priyanka Chopra after Barfi!, Parineeti Chopra after Ishaqzaade and Deepika Padukone after Cocktail. It excites me when people around me do well because then the industry does well. Also at the end of the day do these negative stories help? When your film does well and people love you all this is forgotten.

Q. What do you think about your co-star Imran Khan?

I don’t think anyone has had a bad experience working with Imran Khan. He’s one of our most intelligent actors. One can actually sit and have a conversation with the guy. He’s well-behaved and courteous. You don’t find that in guys anymore. Imran is a younger Shah Rukh Khan. He’ll see to it that your car has arrived and make you sit in it as well. Recently, he gave me a framed poster of Bangalore because we spoke a lot about the city while shooting MKBKM. He has studied in Bangalore and I too am from Bangalore. It’s a funny, caricature of the city. He sent it along with a handwritten note. How many people send handwritten notes today? That’s so me.

Q. Reportedly, Sidhartha Mallya was showing an interest in you and even sent his private jet to fly you to London to meet him.

(In a British accent) That is bloody crap. Come on, I was shooting in Ladakh. It’s not physically possible for me to be in two places at the same time. I don’t even know Sidhartha Mallya. I’ve met him once and I didn’t even have a conversation with him. Whoever plants these stories is wacky in the head. How do they even come up with all this?

Q. Did you ever believe that you’d get so much so soon and without any backing?

I always wanted to be a young achiever. When I was 17 and hadn’t joined the movies I was like, ‘I’ve done nothing in my life’. I’ve worked hard to be where I am and I’ve done it on my own terms. People used to tell me after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that I should sign more films and be seen more at film parties. But that isn’t me. I didn’t do films because Aki Narula or Manish Malhotra were styling me. I did films that I thought would work for me. That could have backfired as well.

Q. Do you have it in you to remain at the top?

I come from an army background. My principles are intact. I believe in competition. I’m bloody competitive. But there are ways of being so. While you’re busy planting stories about me in tabloids, I’ll snatch your work and go ahead. I know it’s hard remaining at the top; I know I don’t belongs to a film family or have strategies to sabotage others’ careers. But it’s too small a price to pay. I might seem like a villain and be the fall guy, so be it. Acting is not the be all and end all for me. For now it’s my career and I love it. But one day I want to get married, have children and drive them to school. At that time, I don’t want to look back and say I played dirty. It doesn’t occur to those who do it but to me it does.

Musics Review of Dabang 2

Director :Arbaaz Khan
Music :Sajid-Wajid
Lyrics : Sameer, Jalees Sherwani, Ashraf Ali and Irfan Kamal
Starring : Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Sonu Sood, Malaika Arora (guest appearance) and Kareena Kapoor (guest appearance)
After the stupendous success of songs like Hudd Hudd Dabangg Dabangg, Tere mast do nain and Munni badnaam Salman Khan comes with the sequel of Dabangg 2. Dabangg went on to create box office records music by Sajid - Wajid and Lalit Pandit also wrote chapters in recent b-town music history. Keeping the prequel in mind producer-director Arbaaz Khan has once again got the powerhouse duo Sajid Wajid  to churn out some mind boggling numbers. They have composed five tracks in all with the same energy and zest.

Dagabaaz Re
Lyrics: Sameer
Singer: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Shreya Ghoshal
Album opens with Dagabaaz Re a sufiyana romantic number, which replaces Tere Mast Mast Do Nain this time. The song been shot on Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha depicts that  Chulbul Pandey and Rajjo have moved ahead in life.  Music duo Sajid Wajid once again brings a perfectly synchronized melody with pristine vocals by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The song like tere mast ... is once again an earthy folk number with a lot of table beats followed by harmonium and saarangi.   It makes references to Chulbul in the film too.  Shreya Ghoshal's melodious voice compliments Rahat's as he goes on a higher level.   It definitely has a lot of repeat value.  The combination of Sajid-Wajid musical tempo with Faiz Anwars expressive lyrics and Rahat's soft voice has a lot of charm.  Do not miss this one.

Pandey Jee Seeti
Lyrics: Jaless Sherwani
Singer: Wajid, Shreya Ghoshal & Mamta Sharma
Salman in his element as the police inspector Chulbul Pandey  is funny rendered by Wajid, Shreya Ghoshal and Mamta Sharma this track has the flavor of the  catchy UP-Bihar style folk track  of the 60's Teesri Kasam hit Chalat Musafir Mohliye re...  It's an energetic dance number Mamta Sharma's and Shreya Ghoshal's add spice to the song in their own styles. The song begins with loads of seeti's and is sure to make way in the hearts of the audiences and will win a lot of taalis.

Fevicol Se
Lyrics: Sajid-Wajid and Ashraf Ali's
Singers: Mamta Sharma
If Malaika Arora enticed you with her moves in Munni Badnaam Hui song then Kareena  Kapoor has  added a lot of oomph and charm to her Fevicol  number. This one is a hit to the core and there's no doubt about it.  Mamta Sharma's sonorous husky vocals add to Wajid's piercing voice and later joined in tandem with choral supports of Keerthi Sagathia, Uvie and Shadaab Faridi in the backdrop. A racy track this song composed by Farah Khan again is a chart buster.  Lyrics by Sajid Wajid and Ashraf Ali are fun and hummable.  A definite winner in the album which will have several repeat values.

Saanson Ne
Lyrics: Irrfan Kamal
Singers: Sonu Nigam & Tulsi Kumar
Saanson Ne is a soft romantic track equivalent to Chori kiya Re Jiya from Dabangg. This number rendered by Sonu Nigam and Tulsi Kumar is melodious but cannot be compared to Chori Kiya .. track. Irrfan Kamal's lyrics are simple and hummable.  Music duo Sajid-Wajid melody adds to it. However this is a very regular track and does not hold much appeal.

Dabangg Reloaded
Lyrics: Jalees Sherwani
Singers: Sukhwinder Singh
After Hud Hud Dabangg Sajid Wajid come up Dabangg Reloaded next. This one comes as extension or sequel title track and Sukhwinder Singh renders this with a punch.  While Hud Hud along with the 'remix') is the kind that should set the tone of Dabangg 2 and visually it should be as dramatic and forceful as one expects from the film. However it does not stay with you for a long time. This is one number that you could certainly miss from the album.

Overall:
While Dabangg was a hit this album by Sajid Wajid lacks the novelty of the prequel. There are some numbers they could have worked on tried to recreate the Dabangg magic. While the three tracks Dagabaaz Re, Pandeyji Seeti and Fevicol Se will allure to the masses the other  two tracks may not so.   However on it's entirety this album is a chartbuster and hopefully the film will create the same track record as the prequel.

Interview with Bollywood Star Akshay Kumar on Released Khiladi 786

After the stupendous success of his film Rowdy Rathore, Akshay Kumar is all set to once again return to action again with the upcoming film Khiladi 786. It now remains to be seen whether the film turns a blockbuster like Rowdy Rathore. Indiaglitz finds out with Akshay Kumar

Akshay describe his latest film Khiladi 786..
Akshay Kumar in Khiladi 786
Basically, Khiladi 786 is a commercial film which has action, music, dance, story, screenplay, dialogues and everything that audience expect! I play the role of Bahattar Singh in the film. Raj Babbar plays the role of my father Sattar Singh while Mukesh Rishi plays my uncle Ikhattar Singh.

Why the title of my film is Khiladi 786..
Interview with Akshay kumar
The hero of the film is a larger-than-life character and so I suggested that since I am referred to as Khiladi, and the character wears lucky number '786' on my hands, Khiladi 786 would be the most apt title for the masala entertainer.

Himesh Reshammiya wanted the title to be Punjabi Rajanikant..
Akhay Kumar and Himesh Reshammiya in Khiladi 786

Himesh Reshammiya, who has scripted Khiladi 786 had a different title in his mind for the film, and that was Punjabi Rajinikanth, because the protagonist is a character jisko koi ek kharoch bhi nahin maar sakta. In a way, Bahattar is invincible and can do wonders, just like Rajanikanth. The only difference is that he's from the north. However, as soon as I came on board, we decided to cash in on the Khiladi franchise and keep the title as Khiladi 786.

You are now being tagged as one of Bollywood's most bankable actors. To what extent do you feel the pressure of success?
Action Hero Akshay Kumar
Once a film of mine releases, frankly I do not dwell too much upon its box-office performance. I am of the opinion that pressure comes as the film nears its release time. But after that if it doesn't work, I hop on to my next film. But I don't take a big hit too seriously also, because the next Friday you have to go in the same circle and you never know what will happen the next Friday. I just take it as it comes. I just work and entertain

You made your Bollywood debut with 1991 film Saugandh and went on to acquire the tag of Khiladi Kumar for your inclination towards action. Over the years, why did you shift your focus to comedies?
Akshay Kumar in Punjabi Dress
After Khiladi 420, I stopped doing action movies because I got married. I just wanted to work on comedy, romance and everything. Being a father and a husband, dont you think that a man has to settle down a little bit? However, now my son has grown up, I decided that I want to go back to action. I have two kids - Aarav, 10 and daughter Nitara, who was born in September.

With Rowdy Rathore, you successfully returned to your love for action and your latest film Khiladi 786 directed by Ashish R. Mohan, with Asin as your leading lady will see you in a similar avatar once again!?
It is a great thing to return to action. It is my love. I have been in this industry because of action. I have tournaments of action. I have my own personal gyms. Action is what I am. It's because of action that I am here. In any case, over the years, why just me, the genre of action has been mixed with comedy and successfully presented to the audience through hit films like Dabangg, Ready and Rowdy Rathore.

Do you think that today's audience is eager to watch over-the-top action movies as compared to family movies like in the past?
Yes. It is absolutely true that the audience today want action. Audience wants this from me. They want over-the-top action movies. These are their demands and we have to try and give it to them. The films are made for everybody. Not only masses but classes also love this.

Can you elucidate?
Nowadays the overseas audience wants to see one actor to be a master of all - whether it is action or comedy. The past formula of having a separate comedian alongside an actor in a film is long gone. Only action doesn't work in overseas. But when you join it with comedy, it works. People want their actors to do comedy too. They don't want any comedians next to the actor. They want one solo hero and want to see everything in him.

Did you miss action films during the seven years when you did not do them?
I left action but to tell you the truth, I wasn't away from action, because I have been a part and parcel of this industry. I left action only in front of the camera. Frankly, I was getting several offers to do action films but then deliberately I did not do those films. I'd say that the trend of action films actually had started long before films like DABANGG and SINGHAM were declared hits.
